Driving Home -- Passing through Time Between the Atlantic and The Great Lakes
by Ray Pfeiffer

Project Statement:

“Everybody is from somewhere, even if you’ve never been there; so take a moment to remember…”

-Ian Anderson

The images in this portfolio were made during long drives traveling between my current home in Raleigh, North Carolina and my hometown of Buffalo, New York, on the shores of Lake Erie; or other times when I had wished I was.

Along the way I pass reminders of travelers who came before me. The places they stopped. Sometimes putting roots down; calling that place home. Testaments to a life, they become monuments to the future.

This series of images aims to document those testaments and preserve them before they are lost to time.

And along the way, to preserve and tell my own.

Needless to say, the route home is often convoluted, and always circuitous. But I believe I’m making real good time…
