The German NGO Ende Gelände is famous for its spectacular rallies against brown coal. By running into open coal mine pits or blocking power stations, they stop the coal industry from digging, or producing electricity—at least for a short while. Brown coal is one of the worst climate killers in the world and Germany is still excavating and importing it for the needs of industry and society. Civil disobedience is the method of Ende Gelände.
