Cat Women is a celebration of powerful, independent women and their cats. Throughout the history of early Western visual art, classic portraits of women have valued their purity, sexuality, or attachment to powerful men. As a female artist, I have appropriated the styles of these “man made” paintings—to subvert the “cat lady” stereotype and instead honor the strength of our sisters.
