Multilayered in Cuba
by Carrie McCarthy

Project Statement:

I made my first journey to Cuba in 2013 and fell in love not only with the light of the island, but also the light of its people. A tropical paradise with a storied past—where intrigue, romance, and uncertainty are woven into the fabric of everyday life—Cuba is a potent, multilayered, multifaceted blend of contradictions: 50 years of socialism and newly approved private enterprise, relaxed Caribbean island culture and vibrant big-city life, chrome-laden vintage American cars from the 1940s and ‘50s juxtaposed with new Chinese taxis and tour buses. These images reflect the elements of Cuba I have come to love.
