FotoweekDC & BYT Media

Svetlana Legetic was born at the very beginning of the 80s in Novi Sad, (then) Yugoslavia. She has been educated in (now) Serbia, England and finally, Savannah, Georgia where she got her Masters Degree in Architecture in 2003. She soon after moved to DC, worked in urban revitalization and hospitality design projects. In 2006 she co-founded, now the biggest independently owned cultural website and event planning organization in DC. On the editorial side the website works with 80+ contributors, engaging 200 000+ individual readers a month in a daily series of articles dedicated to all things good in the nation's capital. On the event side BYT works with partners such as Hirshhorn, Newseum, National Geographic, American Museum of Natural History, Kennedy Center and beyond to create special, one of a kind, high impact open to public events. NY Times has called BYT Media: "...a Web-site-turned-events- organizing juggernaut that has become the locus of Washington’s new-cool art and music scene." In 2012 GQ magazine named Legetic "one of 50 most powerful people in DC" which promptly made her and her team go ahead and try an expand nationally, starting in New York where BYT now operates too. Starting in 2014 Legetic has taken over the curatorial and programming duties of Fotoweek DC, managing a citywide festival involving 60+ local, national and international partners such as the Spain Arts & Culture, Aperture Foundation, Smithsonian, Lomography, Nat Geo Your Shot, ASMP, WHNPA, numerous independent galleries and more.
